I can do this ALL BY MYSELF.
As a parent of adult children, I can honestly remember those moments with fondness, but I am sure I didn’t experience it that way. However, I run into so many business owners who think this very thing. In parenting, we smile indulgently at our toddlers or teens, who are saying, “I can do it all by myself,” all the while thinking…“That’s so cute (or frustrating or annoying) but really… You Can’t.”
That’s the first lesson all successful entrepreneurs learn. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gone into a small business and the owner is isolated and huddled up in his/her office, ready to throw in the towel. There are steps you can take to avoid this scenario.
This is just a reminder. You cannot do this by yourself. You were not meant to do this by yourself and you are actually doing your business, your family and YOU more harm than good by embracing this myth.
There are two ways that you can solve this problem immediately:
-
Establish accountability.
This is not your spouse or best friend. You need an impartial third party in your life who is not moved by your bad habits of leaving your socks on the floor or someone who knows nothing about running a business. This third party will help you stay accountable to your goals for growth and marketing. This third party will always encourage you to stay on track. -
Establish a support system.
This is your spouse, your friends and likeminded entrepreneurs. In spite of the temptation to gut it out and pour more hours into your business than is necessary or even healthy, carve out some time for these people to support you.
Instituting accountability and a support system can be done with minimal to no expense on your part, but you cannot succeed in business without them.
My goal with this blog is to cut through the jargon and communicate clearly all of the ingredients for success, so you focus on growth, so stay tuned.
